The Walsh 4 was for medium to large rooms in the second generation Walsh speakers which provided deeper bass and higher treble. We used real wood veneer cabinets with an Ohm logo in the lower center. There were 3 controls on the back: one to match the bass response to your room size (down for small rooms, up for large rooms and in the middle for mid-sized rooms), one to match the treble (increase for rooms with carpeting and over stuffed furniture, down for hard floors and no drapes, in the middle for average mixed rooms), and a third control set the ”perspective” (forward brought the mid-range up slightly and recessed depressed it slightly).
The speakers’ drivers came as matched mirror image pairs. They have labels identifying the left speaker and right speaker. The cabinets are interchangeable so it is important to have the drivers on the right side with the Ohm logos on the front. Placed eight to twelve feet apart and about one foot from the wall gives the smoothest bass and best imaging.
The driver can be upgraded to the new Walsh 3000, 4000, or 5000 which allows for the bass to be extended down and the treble to have wider dispersion. All necessary parts can be installed with a screwdriver and hot glue gun and takes only 20 minutes. The upgrade comes with a 3 Year Limited Parts & Labor Warranty.
The Walsh 4012 upgrade is similar to the Walsh 4.4000 but with a 12" Xtreme Xcursion subwoofer in the bottom of the same cabinet, driven by a dedicated subwoofer amp with 500 Watts per channel. This is a 20/20K design, covering the full range of human hearing. It reproduces deeper bass and higher treble than the Walsh 4 (The highs are the same as the current 4000.) and plays much louder than the Walsh 4. This upgrade must be done at the factory, since it requires extensive modification to the cabinet, and comes in your choice of real wood veneers. You can still audition this upgrade with our 60-Day Home Trial and send back your speakers in the same packaging material we used to send you the new ones. All upgrades come with Ohm's 3-Year Limited Parts and Service Warrantee.
Note: Most Ohm upgrades require no specialized knowledge and are easily completed completed by any person. It takes less time to install your own upgrade than it does to package and return ship your speakers to the factory, therefore, we recommend you save time and money by doing this yourself. We ship the upgrade to your door with clear, easy instructions. If for any reason you prefer to have the factory complete your upgrade installation, we will be happy to do this for free, however, you will be responsible for shipping and handling costs each way.
Ohm allows up to $1995 for the return of a complete undamaged pair of Ohm 4s toward 25% of the purchase price of new Ohm speakers.
