|Woofer foam surround|
The woofer is the largest driver in the system which covers the bass and mid-range frequency. So far, only foams have needed replacement. We need your old woofers back before we can send you the new ones. There will be an additional $250 charge if the old woofer is not returned.
The low tweeter is generally the midsize driver in the system which covers the upper mid-range and low treble. It is normal for the C3 low tweeter to have much lower output than the high tweeter. The switch on the back also uses “break-before-make” logic, so it’s possible to effectively mute the low tweeter by balancing the switch between two positions.
The high tweeter is generally the smallest driver in the system which covers the highest frequencies.
The grill is the cloth and frame used to cosmetically conceal the drivers without affecting the sound. Ohm now uses black grills in almost all cases. In the past, brown and brown/black mixes were used; but every ”brown” turned out differently. Now they are all black.
The crossover is the electrical circuit that protects the tweeters from the low frequency energy that is reproduced by the main drivers. This can only fail, in rare instances, from overdriving the speakers.

The C3 was the last of the large bookshelf speakers with a 10” vented woofer and two tweeters. This system used a slightly larger cabinet than prior models in the C series. It was more sensitive and could fill large rooms. The tweeters were in a vertical line and sounded nearly time aligned when listening directly in front of the woofer for an extremely transparent sound.
New foam surrounds which are projected to last up to 30 years can be factory installed when you return your C3s to us for a charge of $50 each.
