The F3 was the second of the upgrades for the Ohm F cabinets. It used the large driver on an unmodified cabinet for matching bass (F3), or a braced and vented cabinet for deeper bass (F4). Again, the sweet-spot was much wider and treble extended in both versions.
We continued to make new Ohm F drivers for service replacement for many years after we stopped selling new units (we've never seen a ''repaired Ohm F'' that performed like a new one because none were good enough to put our name on them). The newly developed Walsh driver was adapted to the Ohm F cabinet and became the F-2 which was the first Ohm F upgrade. We stopped making the original driver in 1994 when the last of the craftspeople retired; but we now offer a wide range of upgrades. All the upgrades come with a 60 Day Home Trial and 3 Year Limited Parts and Labor Warranty.
We have continued to improve the Walsh technology and today the Walsh Thousand Series are the best speakers we have ever built and the reviewers agree:
''... they generate a kind of realism in stereo that is not available from ordinary box speakers, nor from panel dipolars... Listening to these speakers can be a hypnotic experience. With well-miked recordings, the sense of immersion in the recorded acoustics, of original ambiance revealed, and of the presence of the musicians grabs you almost by the throat... they do things almost no other speaker I know of can manage. There is serious thought behind them, and a level of originality not often found in speaker design. Like their ancestors, a legend in the making.'' Robert Greene - Fi
''... a room-filling, box-less, precise image that drew you immediately into the music... Bass extended down to 30 Hz in my room, a feat which few other speakers have been able to manage, and had good definition... The mid-range was neutral and uncolored with excellent detail... Trebles were extended and balanced... a marvelous you-are-there image with body, depth, and presence... Overall I found the Ohm 300 an excellent speaker, one that I could live with indefinitely... The Ohm 300 Mk-2 joins the ranks of the two or three other expensive speakers that I can strongly recommend.'' Kenneth M. Duke - The Sensible Sound
''Bass is outstanding for its tautness, depth, and power... image very well... excellent dynamics... the balance of frequencies was very good... Highs were always smooth and extended... The ambiance and sense of room size were marvelous... They are a pleasure to listen to.'' James T. Frane - The audiophile Voice
''... a very large sound stage... big on bass, and I mean deep and powerful... the mids are so open, like you might find with a ribbon speaker... should definitely be auditioned.'' J.D. Moretti - Secrets of Home Theater and High
''... a huge sound stage... phenomenal... exciting... Dynamite!.. amazing disappearing act... Smoooooooth... very transparent... I like these speakers. I like them a lot.'' John Polis - SMR Home Theatre
These are comments from the first independent reviews of the Walsh Mk-2 Series loudspeakers. The Ohm F upgrades use the drivers from the newer Thousand Series. With your Ohm F cabinets, you will enjoy 25 Hz low bass which is an extra half octave of deeper bass than the original Fs.
You can hear them for yourself with our Home Trial program. Audition a pair in your home for up to two months. If you are not completely satisfied, return them for a full refund of your purchase price. Your satisfaction is guaranteed!
The Walsh Thousand Series are designed to work best in specific sized rooms: small, medium or large. They take advantage of the reinforcement room walls give to the deep bass. For your main speakers the dispersion is restricted on the sides and back to make placement easier and the sweet-spot becomes a sweet-sweep, usually as wide as the speakers are apart. Rear ambiance speakers are still available as full range, fully omnidirectional speakers at no difference in cost.
The F5000 driver is the latest version of the highly reviewed Walsh 300 driver with switches that allow you to match its balance to your room (big to small and live to dead) and your preference (forward to recessed). These always come with the new grills. The cabinet needs some modification since the F5000 system can produce up to 10 times the sound level the original Ohm F could. It takes about 2 hours if you're handy with woodworking or we will do the modifications for you for $250 plus freight both ways.
These use the actual drivers from the Walsh 2000, 3000 and 4000. They all come with the new grills. You must modify the cabinet with the F4000; change the drivers for the F2000 plus remove some of the stuffing for the F3000. Used in the proper sized rooms, they sound virtually the same on all recordings -- and the same as the F5000. The advantages of the F5000s are their flexibility to match any room and taste plus their ability to play louder in small and medium rooms.
