If there is very little sound and it is scratchy, buzzy, or it rattles in the low frequency range, then a low repair is necessary. We must receive both speakers from you so that we can match them both to the good one.
When the system is very dull sounding but most of the sound is acceptable, it usually indicates that a high repair is necessary. Sometimes this is only noticed when one speaker is compared to another. We must receive both of your drivers so that we can match them both to the good one.
High Upgrade (pair)
The original super-tweeter is replaced by the current one from the Thousand Series. This gives wider dispersion, measured higher response and more detail in percussion instruments. The high-pass filter is changed. The two drivers are matched to each other. This upgrade is often done at the same time as general maintenance. (Maintenance id charged separately.)
The grill is the cloth and frame used to cosmetically conceal the drivers without affecting the sound. Ohm now uses black grills in almost all cases. In the past, brown and brown/black mixes were used. Now they are all black. The latest style uses wood and perforated metal like the thousand series. The new ones also have no seams. They are much nicer looking than the originals.
Replace Total Driver
The total driver is the perforated metal can including all its internal parts. This option is most often used to replace lost drivers. We still need to get the other one back to make sure they are properly matched.
Surround - Maintenance / Pair
The original surrounds typically last 10 to 20 years while our new surrounds are projected to last up to 30 years. They give you better transition to the mid-range for smoother vocals. At the same time, we change the old dampening material on the inverted driver and re-balance the pair to ensure that they are properly matched and performing correctly.
Upgrade to F5000
The Walsh 5000 is the best Ohm Walsh speaker ever made - period. It has the deepest bass, the most extended “sweet” treble and most natural mid-range. It also has 4 switches that allow you to match its balance to your room (big to small and live to dead), the placement in your room (near corners, walls or free-standing), your preference (forward to recessed) and the liveliness of your room. These always come with the new grills. The cabinet needs some modification since the system can produce up to 10 times the sound level of the original Ohm F. It takes about 2 hours to install if you’re handy with woodworking, or we will do the modifications for $250 plus freight both ways.

Upgrade to F4000
This is the upgrade for large rooms which uses drivers from the Walsh 4000. These always come with the new grills. The cabinet needs some modification since the F4000 system can produce up to 10 times the sound level of the original Ohm F. It takes about 2 hours to install if you’re handy with woodworking, or we will do the modifications for $250 plus freight both ways.

F3 to F4 cabinet
Changes the system from an acoustic suspension to vented and gives you: 1. Deeper bass, 2. Lower distortion, 3. Greater dynamic headroom 4. Castors for easier placement. All the work is done on the cabinet. Highly recommended if you have just the F3s (without vents).
Upgrade to F-5015
The Walsh 5000 is the best Ohm Walsh speaker ever made - period. It has the deepest bass, the most extended “sweet” treble and most natural mid-range. It also has 4 switches that allow you to match its balance to your room (big to small and live to dead), the placement in your room (near corners, walls or free-standing), your preference (forward to recessed) and the liveliness of your room. These always come with the new grills. The F-15 Low Frequency Effects Subwoofer (LFE) is a separate powered driver installed in the bottom of the F cabinet. The area under the F grill houses the new upgraded driver mounted on a separate enclosure. This upgrade requires significant modification of the original unit and is done at our factory in Brooklyn. Upon completion of the upgrade, we will send you the complete finished speaker, and you will then be able to use our cartons to return the original cabinets. Price includes your choice of new veneer!

Repair/Replace Metal Can
The metal can is the protective cover enclosing the driver. This should not be removed except at the Ohm factory. If third-party repairs are attempted, the final repair cost will be higher to fix whatever additional damage is done. However, a small cosmetic dent in the area opposite the wires will have no effect on the sound. These are sold and installed only at the factory after the drivers have been tested and found to be working properly

The F3 was the second of the upgrades for the Ohm F cabinets. It used the large driver on an unmodified cabinet for matching bass, or a braced and vented cabinet for deeper bass. Again, the sweet-spot was much wider and treble extended in both versions.
We continued to make new Ohm F drivers for service replacement for many years after we stopped selling new units (we've never seen a ''repaired Ohm F'' that performed like a new one because none were good enough to put our name on them). The newly developed Walsh driver was adapted to the Ohm F cabinet and became the F-2 which was the first Ohm F upgrade. We stopped making the original driver in 1994 when the last of the craftspeople retired; but we now offer a wide range of upgrades. All the upgrades come with a 60 Day Home Trial and 3 Year Limited Parts and Labor Warranty.
We have continued to improve the Walsh technology and today the Walsh Thousand Series are the best speakers we have ever built and the reviewers agree:
''... they generate a kind of realism in stereo that is not available from ordinary box speakers, nor from panel dipolars... Listening to these speakers can be a hypnotic experience. With well-miked recordings, the sense of immersion in the recorded acoustics, of original ambiance revealed, and of the presence of the musicians grabs you almost by the throat... they do things almost no other speaker I know of can manage. There is serious thought behind them, and a level of originality not often found in speaker design. Like their ancestors, a legend in the making.'' Robert Greene - Fi
''... a room-filling, box-less, precise image that drew you immediately into the music... Bass extended down to 30 Hz in my room, a feat which few other speakers have been able to manage, and had good definition... The mid-range was neutral and uncolored with excellent detail... Trebles were extended and balanced... a marvelous you-are-there image with body, depth, and presence... Overall I found the Ohm 300 an excellent speaker, one that I could live with indefinitely... The Ohm 300 Mk-2 joins the ranks of the two or three other expensive speakers that I can strongly recommend.'' Kenneth M. Duke - The Sensible Sound
''Bass is outstanding for its tautness, depth, and power... image very well... excellent dynamics... the balance of frequencies was very good... Highs were always smooth and extended... The ambiance and sense of room size were marvelous... They are a pleasure to listen to.'' James T. Frane - The audiophile Voice
''... a very large sound stage... big on bass, and I mean deep and powerful... the mids are so open, like you might find with a ribbon speaker... should definitely be auditioned.'' J.D. Moretti - Secrets of Home Theater and High
''... a huge sound stage... phenomenal... exciting... Dynamite!.. amazing disappearing act... Smoooooooth... very transparent... I like these speakers. I like them a lot.'' John Polis - SMR Home Theatre
These are comments from the first independent reviews of the Walsh Mk-2 Series loudspeakers. The Ohm F upgrades use the drivers from the newer Thousand Series. With your Ohm F cabinets, you will enjoy 25 Hz low bass which is an extra half octave of deeper bass than the original Fs.

Optimized for Your Listening Room
The Walsh Thousand Series are designed to work best in specific sized rooms: small, medium or large. They take advantage of the reinforcement room walls give to the deep bass. For your main speakers the dispersion is restricted on the sides and back to make placement easier and the sweet-spot becomes a sweet-sweep, usually as wide as the speakers are apart. Rear ambiance speakers are still available as full range, fully omnidirectional speakers at no difference in cost.
The Ultimate Experience: The F5015 for $6000
The F5015 may be the best speaker we have ever built. It uses the top-of-the-line driver from our Walsh Thousand Series, and features a 15" Xtreme Xcursion subwoofer with a dedicated 500 Watt amplifier. This modification can be done only at the factory.
The Ultimate in Sound and Flexibility: The F5000 for $3450.
The F5000 driver is the latest version of the highly reviewed Walsh 300 driver with switches that allow you to match its balance to your room (big to small and live to dead) and your preference (forward to recessed). These always come with the new grills. The cabinet needs some modification since the F5000 system can produce up to 10 times the sound level the original Ohm F could. It takes about 2 hours if you're handy with woodworking or we will do the modifications for you for $250 plus freight both ways.
The Ultimate Sound - Matched to Your Room Size: Small $1500, Medium $2150, or Large $2950.
These use the actual drivers from the Walsh 2000, 3000 and 4000. They all come with the new grills. You must modify the cabinet with the F4000; change the drivers for the F2000 plus remove some of the stuffing for the F3000. Used in the proper sized rooms, they sound virtually the same on all recordings -- and the same as the F5000. The advantages of the F5000s are their flexibility to match any room and taste plus their ability to play louder in small and medium rooms.
