Ohm L

The Ohm L is the most popular speaker Ohm has ever built. It was designed to have the deep bass of the popular Advent Loudspeaker in a much smaller cabinet by using optimal venting techniques. The low tweeter was the same as used in the much more expensive Ohm H and C2s. The high tweeter extended the treble beyond audibility. The system received rave reviews. Tens of thousands were sold in the late 1970s and are still providing high listening pleasure.

    • The OHM L upgraded woofer kits offer smoother transition to the low tweeter and use a new foam surround that is projected to last up to 30 years that will allow for more clarity on female voices. The FerroFluid cooling handles the thermo transients from CDs.

Tighter and deeper bass is heard with the addition of a SubBass Activator (SBA) and vent adapter. The SBA eliminates the drive below the speaker's natural response to reduce distortion and clean up the deep bass. The vent adapter tunes the cabinet to work with the SBA and new woofers for deeper bass response.

Note: Most Ohm upgrades require no specialized knowledge and are easily completed completed by any person. It takes less time to install your own upgrade than it does to package and return ship your speakers to the factory, therefore, we recommend you save time and money by doing this yourself. We ship the upgrade to your door with clear, easy instructions. If for any reason you prefer to have the factory complete your upgrade installation, we will be happy to do this for free, however, you will be responsible for shipping and handling costs each way.

    • Ohm allows up to $495 for the return of a complete pair of undamaged Ohm L's toward 25% of the purchase price of new Ohm speakers.

    SBA

The SubBass Activator is an electrical circuit which extends the deepest bass when the music calls for it, reduces the distortion for cleaner sound, increases the dynamic range for greater impact, and uses a self-resetting protection circuit to reduce the chance of damaging the speakers.

    $140
    Low Tweeter

The low tweeter is generally the midsize driver in the system which covers the upper mid-range and low treble. The low tweeter on the L is located physically higher on the cabinet.

    $85
    High Tweeter

The high tweeter is generally the smallest driver in the system which covers the highest frequencies. The high tweeter on te L is located physically lower on the cabinet.

    $75
    Grill

The grill is the cloth and frame used to cosmetically conceal the drivers without affecting the sound. Ohm now uses black grills in almost all cases. In the past, brown and brown/black mixes were used; but every ”brown” turned out differently. Now they are all black (except on some current white speakers, we have white as an option).

    $115
    Crossover

The crossover is the electrical circuit that protects the tweeters from the low frequency energy that is reproduced by the main drivers. This can only fail, in rare instances, from overdriving the speakers.
